Sibxy PANH

Sibxy Panh is a Cambodian-Chinese filmmaker and cinematographer based in BEIJING. As the fourth generation of his family in Cambodia, he primarily communicates in Mandarin Chinese while also speaking Khmer, Thai, Lao, and French.

A visual storyteller with a strong artistic vision, Sibxy specializes in crafting deeply personal narratives through a subjective lens, blending emotional depth with a cinematic language influenced by visual anthropology. His notable works include the genre films White un tendre moment and Flavor of Amok, which explore human experiences through rich, atmospheric storytelling.

While his primary focus lies in independent cinema, Sibxy has also gained extensive experience in commercial filmmaking. His portfolio includes television commercials (TVCs) for eyewear, jewelry, and automotive brands, as well as promotional films for educational institutions, city branding campaigns, and corporate documentaries for the medical sector. Despite his commercial ventures, he remains committed to artistic expression, pushing the boundaries of conventional filmmaking.

Currently, Sibxy is dedicated to developing his career in Cambodia, collaborating with China Central Television (CCTV), Nanhai Voice, and the Hainan International Film Festival. His ongoing projects focus on uncovering unique narratives from the Mekong region, with the ambition of producing a feature-length Mandarin-language film that reflects the region’s cultural and social landscape.

In addition to his own filmmaking, Sibxy was involved in the production of Gaokao 2020, a documentary co-produced by five internationally renowned directors under the commission of China’s State Council Information Office and China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration. The film was broadcast on National Geographic Asia and won the “Most Influential Documentary for International Communication” award in the 2021 China Top 10 Documentary Series Selection, earning Sibxy significant recognition in the Chinese film and television industry.

Sibxy comes from a family deeply rooted in the arts. His sister, Bosba Panh, is a renowned composer and performer who has represented Khmer culture on global stages, while his uncle, Rithy Panh, is an award-winning filmmaker and a nominee for the 2014 Academy Awards, celebrated for his contributions to Cambodian cinema. Growing up in this creative environment, Sibxy developed a profound appreciation for storytelling in both visual and musical forms. His work reflects a continuous pursuit of artistic excellence, bridging cultural narratives with his unique cinematic perspective.
